🤔 Everyday Decisions

What Should We Eat? Let the Wheel Decide Dinner

End the nightly 'I don't know, what do you want?' loop. Put your meals on a wheel and spin for dinner in seconds.

“What do you want for dinner?” “I don’t know, what do you want?” If this conversation plays on loop in your house, you are not alone — meal indecision is one of the most common small frictions in shared households.

The five-minute dinner wheel

  1. Open Spin the Wheel.
  2. Type 6–10 meals you actually like and can make (tacos, pasta, stir-fry, soup, breakfast-for-dinner…).
  3. Spin. Cook what it says.

The rule that makes it work: you commit to the spin. No re-spins because you “weren’t feeling it.” The whole point is to skip the decision, not to negotiate with randomness.

Why it actually works

Decision fatigue is real. By dinner time you have made hundreds of small choices, and “what to eat” becomes the one that breaks you. Outsourcing it to a wheel is not silly — it is a legitimate decision procedure. Restaurants do the equivalent with “chef’s choice.”

It also ends the veto problem. When a person picks, the other person can object. When the wheel picks, there is nobody to argue with.

Level it up

  • Theme nights on the wheel: Italian, Mexican, Asian, American, Wildcard. Spin the theme first, then the dish.
  • The veto token: each person gets one veto per week. Use it wisely.
  • Yes-or-no for two options: down to two choices? The Yes or No Wheel settles it in one tap.
  • New recipe roulette: add one new recipe to the wheel each week. You will try twelve new dishes a year without ever “deciding” to.

Beyond dinner

The same trick works for movie night, weekend plans, and chores. Keep a few saved wheels — “movies,” “takeout spots,” “weekend activities” — and the small decisions stop eating your evenings.
